MV Plancius spent the first years of her life, from 1976 to 2004, as an oceanographic research vessel for the Royal Dutch Navy. This adventurous start means that, even though it has now been completely rebuilt to accommodate travelling guests, it is completely ice strengthened. The bow and stern have been strengthened and the hull is thicker, as well as having extra frames and support so it can push its way through stubborn floes, getting you closer to the action.

The Plancius has set new standards in the world of expedition cruising in the Antarctica.

Plancius accommodates 114 passengers in 53 passenger cabins with private toilet and shower. There are 4x Quadruple cabins with private facilities, 2x Triple cabins with private facilities, 37x Twin cabins with private facilities, lower berths (two single beds), 10x Superior cabins with private facilities, double beds.

The observation lounge has panoramic windows so you can spend time in the evenings at the bar, drink in hand, looking out over the vast and icy north. There is also a restaurant/lecture room. 10 Zodiacs are used to ensure your departure from the vessel is smooth on each of your excursions. Onboard there are 17 nautical crew, 19 hotel staff and 8 expedition staff.
